April Fools’ Day Theatrics
BY EMMALY WIEDERHOLT AND MAGGIE STACK
It’s that day of the year when you can’t trust anyone! From the costume designer to the orchestra, everyone in the theater seems to have a bit of tomfoolery up their sleeves!
~~
You’ve been fooled! That seemingly benign audience member just set off the fire alarm during the steamiest part of Romeo and Juliet’s balcony scene.
You’ve been fooled! The stagehand put the flying harness on and levitated himself instead of Dracula.
You’ve been fooled! The lighting designer “accidentally” focused the spotlight on a random peasant in the back instead of on Giselle during her crazy scene.
You’ve been fooled! The costume designer sewed into your tutu a secret automated butt flap.
You’ve been fooled! The orchestra inserted the orchestral version of Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” into Tchaikovsky’s score at the exact moment when Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger.
Happy April Fools’ Day!
