Wind of My Soul

Happy National Poetry Month from Stance on Dance!

BY LAURA HAYES-MEERMAN; ILLUSTRATION BY LIZ BRENT

The wind blows
So softly
Through my lips.

The right side
Holds so much.
Opening my pelvis
I drop deep
And feel my sorrow.

I hold so much
Do I dare
Speak my truth.

The wind blows
Softly through my bones
And I am the dancer
At the barre.

My body remembers
My wounds,
Holds my story

I cry
For myself
For others
The well is deep
I crawl
So I can stand.
